The Information & Communication Technology (ICT) sector has become the major driver for the realization of Africa´s economic growth potential! Better and more digital services through access to modern ICT offers the great chance to African businesses to become more competitive while also offering a higher level of welfare to the continent´s citizens. In addition, on the way towards the realization of the agenda 2063, it also provides for the opportunity to realize the industrialization process in an energy- and resource-efficient way.
The gamechanger role has become clear during the Covid-19 pandemic. For example, on B2B-level with telecommuting & virtual conferencing and on B2C-level with e-health & entertainment services as well as in capacity-building with home schooling & e-learning and in the field of social interaction by video chats with friends and family. Not that obvious for many but even more important for the industrialization path of Africa is the use of ICT in the fields of energy with smart grids, manufacturing with automatization & customer-centric services, mobility with intelligent traffic management, smart agriculture for achieving higher yields with less water use, and finally with smart buildings to cut CO2 emissions and energy use.
